Hi interior designers and happy home pros!
I don’t normally email on Wednesdays, but... I have something to share!
I’m officially opening Happy Starts at Home to article submissions. 🎉
- Do you like to write?
- Do you have practical expertise, experience, or a perspective homeowners could benefit from?
If so, keep reading... (If not, share this with your writing friends! 🤗 )
It's time for the next chapter of Happy Starts at Home: transforming it from my former interior design business site into a practical, psychology-driven residential design publication.
"But Rebecca, why not sunset the site and focus on your coaching?"
Good advice 😂 ... but check out these numbers!
In the last 12 months, Happy Starts at Home had 55,806 sessions.
Even more interesting? 74% of them came from organic search!
I haven't been actively publishing new content since moving to France, yet people are still finding articles I wrote years ago because they’re searching for answers to very specific questions!
Questions like:
- Where the heck to put a microwave if I don’t want it on the counter?
- What do those upholstery cleaning codes actually mean?
- Can I swag my chandelier instead of moving the junction box?
Happy Starts at Home already has an evergreen audience looking for useful answers about how to make home work better. ☺️
👉 I have long wanted to give a voice to designers like me who value practical advice and real homes over luxury and status.
This platform I built now gives me a chance to pursue that dream. 👈
Happy Starts at Home is now open to article submissions. 🎉
I’m looking for both practical how-to articles and personal essays that have something useful, interesting, surprising, or meaningful to say about home and the people who live there.
For this first round, I’m hosting a free editorial workshop to help you develop your idea.
What's Your Happy Starts at Home Article Idea?
Bring something you know, believe, have experienced, or repeatedly see in your work. It does not need to be a polished pitch.
We’ll look at how to turn that seed of an idea into a specific article with a clear angle, useful details, and a reason someone would actually want to read it.
I’ll also share the editorial guidelines I’m using for Happy Starts at Home, give you examples of editorial feedback, and, time allowing, workshop several article ideas live.
This first workshop is happening next Wednesday, September 2 at 8am Pacific. It’s free, live, and I’m not sending out a replay! 🚨
I don’t know yet whether I’ll offer this workshop again, so if you’d like help shaping an article idea for Happy Starts at Home, this is the one to join.
Can’t make that time? Reply and tell me you’re interested. 🤚 If enough people raise their hands, I’ll schedule another session and make sure you hear about it.
But best? Sign up right now and I'll see you next Wednesday! 😀
Wednesday, September 2 • 8am Pacific • Live on Zoom • FREE
Note: The HSAH website is still transitioning to reflect the publication I envision, but you do not have to wait for the redesign to be published. Accepted articles can go live now and join an established library of practical home content people are already discovering through search.
And yes, accepted contributors will receive an author bio and backlink to their own website.
All kinds of home pros are welcome — designers, landscape designers, contractors, tradespeople, and more. The story matters more to me than a particular set of credentials.
The real reason to submit is this:
Something useful you know could keep helping people long after you hit publish. 💛
I’d love to help you publish an article centered in your experience and expertise. 🙂 Rebecca
