How She Won The Sale 🙌 😀

Happy Tuesday Interior Designers and enthusiastic entrepreneurs!

Last Saturday I told you about someone I was considering hiring—the gal who made it harder for me to hire her by refusing to give me any sense of pricing until the proposal meeting.

Well… I hired her. 🙌

And I think that's an important lesson:

You can do a lot of things "wrong" and still win the project if you do a few important things right. 😮‍💨

What did she do exceptionally well? She clearly explained exactly what I would get. Not vague promises. Not generic outcomes.

Specific deliverables.

As she walked through her proposal, I could see exactly what she was going to do, what problems she was going to solve, and how her work would make my life easier.

Why does that matter?

Because: People buy emotionally and justify logically.

Something usually sparks the initial interest. Hope. Excitement. Relief. Curiosity. A sense that maybe this person can help.

But after that emotional decision starts forming, the brain shows up, ready to save you from making a terrible decision by asking questions:

  • "Is this worth it?"
  • "Can I justify this investment?"
  • "What exactly am I getting?"
  • "How do I explain this decision to my spouse, business partner, or accountant?"

That's where clear deliverables become incredibly powerful. 💪 They give clients something concrete to evaluate. Instead of thinking:

"I hope this works. They said I'll 'love my house' when we're done."

They can think:

"The proposal says this person is going to handle the measurements, create the plans, coordinate the details, manage the purchasing, and save me dozens of hours of stress."

That's the kind of detail that makes it easier to buy!

But here's the coolest part: clear deliverables don't just help win projects.

They also help clients stay happy after they sign the contract!!

Why?

Because they set clear expectations—the true foundation of client trust. 🙌

And that's ultimately why she won the sale.

Yes, the lack of price signaling created unnecessary anxiety. But she made the value impossible to miss. I could clearly compare the investment against what I would receive, and my brain had enough evidence to support the decision my heart already wanted to make. 🧠 💛

The source of *my* confidence

As we close this conversation, here's my confession:

I became confident in my process years before I became confident in my talent. 👀

See, for a long time, I genuinely believed other designers were more talented than I was.

But I knew my process worked.

I knew clients understood what they were buying.

I knew they felt guided instead of overwhelmed.

I knew they made better decisions because of how I led them from inquiry to onboarding to implementation.

And because I trusted the process, I was able to trust myself.

That's what Lead to Launch is really about.

Not scripts.

Not sales tricks.

Not persuasive tactics.

Confidence.

Confidence in your services.

Confidence in your onboarding.

Confidence in the promises you're making to clients.

The kind of confidence people hope to find when they hire a professional.

Confidence doesn't come from hoping clients see your value.

It comes from learning how to communicate it.

Today is the last day to join Lead to Launch for this quarter.

If you're ready to strengthen your onboarding process, client experience, and sales conversations, reply to this email and let's get you registered. Class begins Monday, June 8.

Can’t do it right now? Registration is now open for the October cohort. 🎉

Designers who reserve their spot with a deposit by June 12 will receive an early-bird bonus: four private 30-minute coaching sessions, one each month leading up to October.

That's four months of extra support and $600 worth of private coaching before class even begins!! 🤩

Just book a placement chat and put down your $750 deposit by the middle of the month.

That’s it for today. Sending you hugs & a big ol' bucket of encouragement! 🤗

💛 Rebecca

What's coming up: Next week, we'll switch gears and start talking about the other side of the equation: Marketing. Because you can't onboard clients until you attract them in the first place! 😉

Happy Thursday, Designers & Savvy Service Providers! Let's adapt Tuesday's reveal for your brand! On Tuesday, I shared how Josepha adapted her message for contractors without abandoning the heart of her brand. Her homeowner-facing message is: Find Your Bold. Her contractor-facing message is: Bold decisions. Buildable designs.Design support that keeps remodels moving. Different words. Same business. And that is the point. Your message can change outfits. It just should not change...

Happy Tuesday, Designers & Savvy Service Providers! Let’s talk taglines. A few simple words, meant to capture the heart of your brand. They can take ages to find and refine, and once you finally discover language that explains what makes your business different, it's tempting to treat those words like they've been carved into a stone tablet. This is the tagline. We shall use it forever. Nobody touch anything. But clear messaging does not mean repeating the exact same sentence to every...

Happy Thursday Designers and Creative Entrepreneurs, On Tuesday I gave you a quick test: Copy the titles of your last 10 blog posts into ChatGPT and ask what your business does, who you help, and what problems you solve. Today, I’m showing you what happened when I ran that test on two real interior design blogs. And spoiler: both designers were doing smart things, but in very different ways. One designer’s blog titles made her location and service lane crystal clear. The other designer’s...
